CBSE Reading Mission: a promising initiative to attain Foundational Literacy

The ‘CBSE Reading Mission’ launched by CBSE in partnership with Pratham Books’ StoryWeaver and supported by the Central Square Foundation, is an ambitious national initiative that has the potential to make every child in India upto 8th grade attain foundational literacy through joyful reading. This digital reading programme is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that emphasizes the importance of well-stocked school libraries and digital libraries to attain the goal of foundational literacy for all children by the year 2025.Participated and presented my views from the field in the Librarian Connect Webinar on “The Library as a Dynamic Space to Nurture Reading Communities”‘ organized by CBSE & Pratham Books for School Librarians from Odisha.Hope the Mission leaders could reach more school librarians, whose support is integral to attain the stated objectives, around the country throgh such programmes in future.
